review&swatches 'Legends of the Sky'

Hey lovelies,

I hope you all had great holidays (if you celebrate Christmas)!
A little belated, I now want to show you a few of the products from essence's Legends of the Sky LE, which is coming to stores in January.

First of all, the lipstick.
This one is the color '01 I am a viator'. We were a bit intimidated by the dark brown when we unpacked it and figured we'd never wear something like that. But swatched, the color isn't that opaque. The lipstick is very creamy and smells really nice. We both tried it on and it looked nice either way but, in our opinion, it works better when your lips are already a darker color and you're a darker type all together. With dark hair it'll look a bit wicked or vampy, while it can leave you washed out if you're a very light type.

These three nailpolishes.
The colors are '04 no better way to sky' (orange), '02 like leo's flying jacket' (green) and '03 I am a viator' (brown). The concistency is nice on all of them, like it is on most essence laquers, and they are all opaque with two coats. For the swatches we didn't use any base/top coats, but they still stayed on nicely for a few days.

The ring.
Ah the ring :) There's not much to say, it's really nice that it has an elastic band so it fits everyone and, we think, it's really pretty. It's metalic finish changes color depending on the light which makes it very interesting to look at (and play with) :D

Last but not least, the eyeshadow& liner stick.
We tested the color '02 like leo's flight jacket'. It's a nice dark khaki green with a metallic finish. The shadow end of the stick, like most eyeshadow pencils, takes a bit getting used to. It's a bit sticky so it pulls on your skin and doesn't apply all that evenly. It's easy to just blend that out with your finger though :) Both ends are retractable . The liner glides on smoothly and is a bit darker/less shiny than the shadow. As you can see it's very simple to create a quick look with this stick (Kate did this in like a minute or two). Perfect for on-the-go or to take on a trip!

Btw, two of those polishes are part of our giveaway (3 days left to enter)!

A big fat THANK YOU to Cosnova for sending us these products for free!!

In Time - Sylvia Weis

Hey lovelies!

About a week ago I watched the movie In Time with Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried

I really liked it, but the one thing I was totally amazed with, was Amanda Seyfried alias Sylvia Weis' sky high heels and her incredible eye make up! So I thought I would give it a try and do a tutorial for you. :)

To create Silvia Weis' eye make up I started off with a normal eyeshadow base. After that I used a white pencil to prime my eye. Then I used a pale beige shimmery eyeshadow and a bronze one all over my lid. Next I created a shadow around my crease with a dark brownish black eyeshadow and blended it out. Then I used a black gel eyliner to line my complete eye (the upper and lower lid) with a thin black line. After I finished with the black line I deepened the brown shadow along my crease a little bit and finally I curled my lashes and put mascara on. An optional step: I also used some individual lashes to create thicker longer lashes. You can do that but it isn't a must! :) To finish off with the rest of the make up I used a pinkish blush for the apples of my cheeks and a roswood coloured matte lipstick like Sylvia wears in the movie.
Here are some other photos, a close up of the eyes and the whole face. I'm deeply sorry that those have another colour, but I was really pissed of with the light in my room as I look like a ghost, so I changed into a room with warmer lighting!

So, did you see the movie? Did you like her make up? I would love to see some of your interpretations of this eye make up! :)

Have a nice evening!

Feeling Christmassy

Hey lovelies!

Today I wanted to show you the look I wore in the last days. It's a christmassy one, but nothing too flashy or fancy - I'll save that for New Years Eve! ;)

These are the products I used for my face and the products I used for my eyes:

If you like to recreate this look:

First of all I used Artdeco's eyeshadow base all over my lid, after that I primed
my lid with a plum coloured pencil from p2 (Intensive Khol Eyliner 080 Magic Thailand).

Then I used Tendersmoke from MAC all over my lid and blended it out.

After that I used MAC's Seedy Pearl in the inner corners of my eyes.

In picture five, the eyeshadow I used for the outer corners and outer half of my lid was MAC's famous eyeshadow Satin Taupe

Next I used Carbon from MAC and an angled eyeliner brush to create a soft black line.

After that I used a light pink pencil from p2 to brighten my waterline and the last step is curling my lashes and using mascara (I used Benefit They're Real and Lancôme's Doll Eyes Mascara).

To finish off I used MAC's Blush in Mocha and MAC's Lipstick in Hot Gossip.
By the way, I'm sorry that the eye make up looks a bit washed out, in real life it's shimmery and not as subtle as it looks, but it's still not an overwhelming look.

I hope you like it!
Have a nice evening.

golden holiday look

Hey lovelies!

Have you been giving your holiday makeup some thought already?
While I do like the more traditional red lip, that's not really what I'd wear for dinner with my family. That's why I did this white and gold sparkly look, inspired by this ornament I bought to decorate a present.

If you want to recreate this look:

After priming my eyes with the TooFaced Shadow Insurance, I used my NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils. I applied Milk on the inner 2/3 of my upper eyelid and on the inner third of the lower lid, the rest of the lids I fillled in with Yogurt. Really make sure to connect the color at the outer corners of your eyes. I used three MAC eyeshadows for this look: Cork blended into the crease, Vanilla on the inner half (and on my browbone) and Arena on the outer half of my eyes. I padded essence's mono eyeshadow 24 love me all over, it's not really pigmented but adds a nice golden shimmer to your look. For the extra sparkle I put on a bit of the Artdeco Glam Stars Shimmer Cream in Gold. I just dabbed a bit of it around the outer corners of my eyes with my finger. I also added a very thin line of the Maybelline Eyestudio Gel Liner in Brown. On my cheeks I used the MAC blush My Highland Honey and the Lil' Vampire Shimmer Powder from essence. Last but not least, on my lips I wore the MaxFactor lipstick 859 cinder. Oh and the mascara it the Lash Architect 4D by L'Oréal.

Tip: You might want to use some bronzer, to avoid looking too washed out.

I like makeup like this one for the holidays because it's bright and glamorous without needing too much upkeep. If you do a darker lipstick or something, you'll need to reapply it a few times, especially when there's dinner involved. With a tan lipstick however, you don't really have to, because the color will just fade away to leave your natural lipcolor. If a darker lipstick wears off, you might have weird looking residue on your lips and your overall look changes a lot, so people will probably notice the change.
Not so much with this :)

Hope you're enjoying the last few days of school/work before the holidays!

Shoe Porn

Hey lovelies!

I don't know if you're as much into high heels as I am, but I wanted to show you those gorgeous amazing fabulous darlings. ;)

via nelly

via nelly

I'm totally in love with the spiked khaki heel, the glittery black one and - oh my god - the cream coloured suede platform heel! They look sooo amazing and I think I'll have to order them - soon! :)

Which one do you like best? Do you often wear high heels?
Have a nice evening, ladies.

concealer comparison

Hey lovelies!

I while back I bought the Instant Age Rewind Eraser from Maybelline and I figured I'd compare it to the Garnier Anti Dark Circles Roll-On which I had been using so far.

Both of these are under-eye concealers and are available at the drugstore for less than 10€.

The main difference, I guess, is the application of these concealers. The Garnier one has a tiny metal roller ball, which works like a roll-on deodorant. The metal is cooling and instantly refreshes your eyes. The Maybelline concealer on the other hand has this little sponge on the tip through which the concealer is applied. You twist the red top of the bottle a couple of times in order to push out some of the product.

As you can see these two produce very different swatches. The Garnier concealer puts on a lot more product than the Maybelline one which is why I went looking for a new one in the first place.

I really like the consitency of the roll-on and even though it's very thin, it's highly pigmented. The product melts into the skin and makes it look very healthy. However, applied to the under-eye area the concealer tends to crease and look cakey.

Tip: I love to apply some of this on my face when I don't want to wear much (or any) fountation. The concealer adds a little bit more coverage and I really love the healthy complexion it creates :)

Now, the Maybelline concealer on the other hand is drier and the spongy applicator puts on very little product in comparison. That's enough, though! It's very pigmented and I haven't had any problems with creasing so far.

I'm not entirely sure, as I've had it for a while, but I believe the Garnier concealer is the darker shade, while the Maybelline eraser is the lightest color (01 light).

my conclusion:
If anyone asked me to recommend an under-eye concealer, I'd probably pick the Maybelline one, but the Garnier roll-on is just such a lovely product, I'll still be repurchasing it :)

I hope this was a little bit helpful,

a little bit of OPI

Hey lovelies!

Today I just want to quickly show you these three OPI polishes I ordered lately:

Designer... De Better! │ Skull & Glossbones │ French Quarter For Your Thoughts

Designer... De Better!
[Muppet Collection]

I was a bit unsure about ordering this color but now that I've seen it live, I adore it. It's just so special! The base color is a warm silver but then it has little bits of orange/bronze in it so when you wear it it's somewhere between silver and gold, you can't really tell. The polish is pretty with one coat but I'd recommend two, in order to get the full sparkling effect. In my opinion this laquer is oh so perfect for both Christmas and New Years, I'll definitely be wearing this over the holidays!

Skull & Glossbones [Pirates Of The Caribbean Collection]
It's more than just gray, it's a lovely warm light color with a taupe undertone. I chose this polish because it's very understated yet chic and can be worn on absolutely any occasion! Two coats of this color leave you with a nice coverage.

French Quarter For Your Thoughts [Touring America Collection]
This is a warm muddy gray which is very wearable and not too dark. It's very pigmented and almost completely opaque with one coat!

I'm wearing two thin coats of each polish. Designer... De Better! [thumb] reflects the light quite a bit on these photos, as in reality. Skull & Glossbones [ring finger/pinky] looks like it really does, you can see that it's a bit thin on my ringfinger, so one might better apply thicker coats or maybe a third thin one. French Quarter For Your Thoughts [index/middle finger] seems a little colder here, because of the flash, but you can see how perfectly opaque it is!

I absolutely love these polishes! OPI polishes are quite a bit more expensive than many brands but in my opinion the quality is really worth it, especially when you buy colors, like these grays, that you can wear everywhere.
Do you have any OPI polishes? Which one is your favourite??

I dream of Jamaica / Milk&Yogurt

Hey beauties!

Kate already showed you two of the NYX palettes I dream of Barbados / I dream of St. John, and today I'll show you another one: I dream of Jamaica.

I dream of Jamaica is a lovely versatile palette and basically the warm version of the St. John palette.

I took a photo of that sticker on the back, to highlight the fact that this makeup is completely cruelty free, unfortunately that's not always a given.

Here's some swatches of the palette. As you can all the colors are shimmery, the lighter ones more than the dark ones, which are more satin than full-on metallic. The shimmer's silvery so when the light (or in this case the flash from my camera) hits the eyeshadows they look really shiny and colder, while without that they look darker and warmer. As I said the palette's really versatile and allows you to create looks for almost any occasion!

Other than the palette I also wanna show you the two Jumbo Eye Pencils I bought: Milk & Yogurt.

I was really curious about these, since they're so popular and I had to search for quite a while until I got the ones I wanted.
Yogurt is a nice coppery color which glides on super smoothly and is nice to throw on when you really don't want to bother with makeup but you still want a little shine and definition. I tried that the other day and really liked it. After a couple of hours the color did crease though, so you'll need to wear a base or apply it close to your lashes only.
I just got Milk the other day so I haven't had a chance to create a look with it yet. You can see from the swatch, though, that it's really very opaque and I believe it'll be fantastic to wear under bright eyeshadows, in order to enhance them. This more-or-less matte pencil has a completely diferent texture than the metallic one, it's much more creamy and sticky.

Do you have any tips for using the Eye Pencils?

round 'em up

Just bits of inspiration found here and there =)

Although I haven't seen Immortals yet, I love Freida Pinto's dark earthy makeup! A full breakdown of all the products used on her look can be found on makeup411.

I absolutely adore braided hairstyles but I have to admit, I'm really bad at recreating them! Luckily there's the Beauty Department with their super helpful videos! Learn how to do a classic french braid or a cool fishtail braid!

Winter's sometimes a rather color-less season, with most clothes leaning into the gray area. That's why I love these electric blue accessories put together on All Women Stalk. And the best thing about this color: totally works in the summer, too!

For all those DIY fans out there, here's a cute idea on how to restyle an old sweatshirt from A Beautiful Mess.

I absolutely adore the show New Girl, I've even been thinking about doing a makeup look based on Jess, and now College Fashion did an article on how to dress like Jess, love it! =)

Last but not least, I've been loving this simple yet vibrant copper sparkle & purple look Eesha did a while back!

I Dream Of Barbados/I Dream Of St.John

Hey lovelies!

Today I wanted to show you two eyeshadow palettes from NYX's The Caribbean Collection Lizzy bought for me. By the way, she will review a third one - I Dream Of Jamaica! I wanted to talk about I Dream Of Barbados and I Dream Of St.John.
Both palettes contain 5 colours each and two double applicators. But see for yourself:

I Dream Of Barbados

The colours are lovely, the texture is soft and they apply smoothly. Only the colour on the left doesn't have the texture of the other four colours, unfortunately it is a bit too soft and not firmly enough pressed, so - as you can see - some of the colour already crumbled out. :(
All of the colours have either a satin or metallic finish.

I also created a quick eye make-up look for you!

I Dream Of St.John

The colours here are quite lovely too, the texture is soft and they apply smoothly. I had no problems with the texture of any of the colours here. I really love the first two colours, the are really beautiful. Normally I would say to use the first colour only as a highlighter but the colour payoff is so good that you can also use it as a full-value eyeshadow! All of those colours have also either a satin or a metallic finish. I don't know if it's clearly visible in the picture above, but the last colour is a dark brownish black with this lovely gold shimmer in it. Beautiful! :)

I also created a quick eye make-up look with this palette!

The mascara I used is Lancôme's Doll Eyes. Stay tuned for Lizzy's review!
Have a nice Sunday. ;)
