new essence nailpolishes

Hey lovelies!

I finally got around to testing the new and improved essence nailpolishes so I wanted to show you a little comparison between the old and new packaging.

I have to say I really appreciate the packaging! It's much more comforable to work with and you even get more product. The old bottle was fairly small with 5ml while the new one holds 8ml. I also like the bigger cap (is that what you call it?) as it is easier to hold, especially because it's not entirely round but a oval. I guess the biggest improvement is the new brush, which is wider (from the photo I'd say almost twice as wide as the old one) and more importantly it's rounded! I love a rounded brush, it makes it so much easier to get even results.

More photos of the new nailpolish after the jump :)

Fiji & Island Hopping

Hey lovelies!
Is it just me or does Essie rarely announce their LE's? I never seem to know beforehand when they come out with something new.. but it's a nice surprise to walk into the drugstore and see they've come out with new colors - just happened again yesterday. I did not plan on buying anything but I just fell in LOVE with these two colors and could not resist. I think the LE is calles 'Best of Fashion', but I'm really not sure.. anyway I picked Fiji and Island Hopping, two gorgeous muted purple hues.

Island Hopping is a rich plum mauve with a glossy sheen, which applies really smoothly and evenly.
Fiji is an opaque creamy pale pink. Imagine the lightest purple you can, really almost white - pretty!

Both colors are well pigmented - that's Essie for you :)
But I was really pleasantly surprised with Fiji because with most colors this light you really have to pack it on, but here it's really wearable with two good coats. I added a third to make it absolutely opaque for the photos but you can definitely get away with two! Island Hopping is awesome this way, too, because it applies so evenly that - even though it won't be opaque - you can absolutely wear one coat only and it will still look great!

What do you think?
I love these two, and their amazing quality is a bonus!
Couldn't decide which one to wear first, so I packed on both, works quite well - I think :D

eotd: orange!

Today I tried wow it's orange! and I really like it. This is such a lazy look and yet really out-there :)
All I did was cover my entire lid with the pigment and then lined my eyes all black (liquid liner and then black kajal on the waterlines, set with some black eyeshadow), that's it!

Now in these photos I definitely get the orange thing, like I said here, however when I look in the mirror it's more pink - it's all in the light! The more light, the more orange the pigment looks, keeping it interesting :)

I have to say though, this is a really unusual color and I probably wouldn't wear it all-over like this again unless I'm really going for this kind of whoa-what's-on-your-lids? kind of look again :D In combination with another color or as a pop of color/highlighting thing this will be fantastic!

essence pigments

Hey lovelies!

Yesterday I went to check out the essence colour arts stuff at our local drug store. I didn't really plan on buying anything because I'm usually too lazy to work with loose products, but I really liked some of them and was too curious to not get any.

I picked two of the normal pigments and the one that's basically a loose glitter. At first I only wanted the glitter because I figured it would be great for nail designs but then I totally fell in love with those other two colors.
04 broadway starlet is a nice glittery mix of silver, blue, red, and green particles, with silver making up the biggest percentage. Apart from the glitter particles there aren't any filling pigments or anything which makes it easier to get a nice clean look with these.
06 WOW it's orange is a fantastic color which is at that awesome place between pink and orange where I can never decide which it is. The color actually reminds me a lot of Essie's cute as a button :) The pigment is very pigmented - well, let's go with opaque :D Apart from the orange/pink color it has a gorgeous golden sheen to it, which I didn't notice in the jar but which makes me love this even more!
18 little mermaid is a very vibrant beautiful bright blue. It also has a fantastic color payoff and additionally it stands out with its silver shimmer and turquoise undertone.

The cool thing is that these pigments are currently a limited / trend edition but they are supposed to enter the permanent collection afterwards so if you want more of them, you don't have to spend so much money at once :)
As you can see below (sorry, cellphone pic..) there's a lot of different colors, some more neutral, some as bright as the ones I chose, as well as bases for lips, nails & eyes so you can mix your own favourite product :)

What do you think, are you a fan of pigments?

ski teal we drop

Hey lovelies,
let me show you a lovely new nailpolish I just bought:
Technically it's been out for a while, it's part of the Swiss collection, but you can still get it online and in some stores.

The color changes from a dark teal to a brighter bluer shade when in the light, both hues are gorgeous :)
The polish is basically opaque with one coat but I added a second one to be sure. It's a thin polish that applies smoothly and holds up well, like all OPI polishes I've had so far :)
